Spring Cleaning!

May 2014

i got a new scanner. and a handy dandy little machine called a Plustek OpticFilm OF8200i Ai 35mm Film and Slide Scanner. now that's a mouthful, isn't it!
all in line with my next big project, getting all of our photographs and negatives scanned and onto my computer. we also are going to be getting a new computer so this entire project is on hold until that is accomplished.
right now all of our pictures are in huge plastic tubs in the back of an upstairs closet. real handy in case of a fire, eh? gosh! don't even mention that!
the project that is going on right now is the upgrading of my husband's boyhood home. too many years of neglect coupled with wanton renters had taken their toll.
but the house is 125+ year old and still solid as a rock with all hardwood floors which we just discovered under the old orange carpet in the living room and the harvest gold linoleum in the kitchen!
some of the original doorknobs were stolen but i have been able to replace them thanks to eBay.
9+ layers of wallpaper on most of the walls. holes in the plaster stuffed with rags and papered over! but the most beautiful woodwork!
my mother-in-law was a very practical person. she didn't like clutter and she didn't like too much "stuff". when she moved to the nursing home, it didn't take her daughters very long to sort through what she had left in her home.
i think that my own mother had a fear of running out of things to do when she got "old", so she filled a big room in her basement with craft supplies, yards and yards of fabric, artificial flowers, dried flowers, flower arranging supplies, and other sundry items that she was sure to use sometime.
she had a fast-growing brain tumor that the doctors didn't see right away because of bleeding from a stroke she had while she was on a bus tour. the tumor took her just a month later at the age of 81. and she had so very much left to do!
it took her 6 children and several of her grandkids more than two weeks to finally empty her house.
so, of course, i'm thinking along those same lines. de-clutter. give away. sell. dispose of. i don't want my kids cussing at me for having too much "stuff"!
and i hope they will miss me... even just a little!
